Farm Diversification - How To Make A Living Without Giving Up The Good Life A simple search through the internet has proved so many farmers are looking at alternatives to giving up farming altogether. There is a wealth of information about farm diversity ranging from renting out land or buildings to a whole new life. Some of the diversification methods involve rare and exotic breeds I'm sure most of you have seen adverts for ostrich steaks and other weird and wonderful things to tempt your palate. Deer farming, alpaca rearing, worm farming and snail farming are other methods of diversity. Venison[deer meat] is rapidly becoming a more marketable and obtainable delicacy not just for the rich and famous. Its still relatively an expensive product but if more people tried it the market would become more competitive. Market gardening has been proved a reliable option as gardening is one of the most common hobbies of late and huge amounts of cash is poured into this market. In fact even growing your own vegetables looks like a good idea as world wide production has been hit recently and prices are expected to shoot up, it's also a great way to help children learn about healthy foods and encourage them to realize how things are grown. I'm sure you'll have heard a child say potatoes come from Asda. It's a sad reflection on life today. We grew up just knowing how things grew or where the raw product came from, we as kids had to pick potatoes from the field, I can tell you when it's freezing cold, wet and windy you don't forget to appreciate the work involved just to get a meal on the table. A friend of the family diversified into Worm farming a few years ago , I don't mind telling you we laughed at such an outrageous and ridiculous idea but he had the last laugh as he has just recently built his own house . Which just goes to prove that if you try hard enough you can find a way that works for you. I hope this has whetted your appetite to read or learn more I have always had an urge to inform people just how wonderful life on a farm can be, yes it's very hard work and actually at times it takes over your life but for that rare breed of people who choose this life the rewards are immense. Unfortunately because of world trends this "GOOD LIFE" is not so good anymore. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anne_Barron |
